The Coburg Bar

Parisian based designer, India Mahdavi, has created a destination for genuine bar aficionados. Using her unique and eclectic creativity, she has created a public space that encompasses a warm, chic, relaxed and intimate vibe, while maintaining the essence of its original appeal. The modern decorative touches, such as lacquering the fire surround in black and painting the wood panelling in a trendy taupe, have added renewed allure to existing antique pieces. Artwork is simple and outstanding, with four black and white cameos by Julian Opie sitting on the panelling either side of the fireplace.

The old Connaught wingback chairs strike a beguiling pose, now reclaimed and re-upholstered in velvet with black fringing. The large caramel Heppelwhite ‘loveseats’ are invitingly cosy for two. The wide-seated 18th century ‘easy chairs’, covered in burgundy; mink and purple, are extremely special too. This is a bar in which to enjoy fine wines with a distinctive Connaught cocktail menu, in comforting and luxurious style, together with a service that runs as smoothly as the shine on its mirrored surface.

From midday to sunset, twilight to black velvet, this is the bar for you.
